Hearing Aid Styles
We carry hearing aids that will help you hear better throughout your everyday life. Each hearing aid is programmed to your unique hearing loss and needs. There are many different types of hearing aids in a variety of styles and models. Some hearing aids are more cosmetically appealing than others while some offer more advanced technology. At Hearing Clinic of Greater New Orleans, we carry the following styles of hearing aids.
Receiver-in-Ear (RIE):
These are our most popular hearing aids. They are small, discreet, and comfortable to wear. The hearing aid microphone is placed inside of the ear, making speech sound natural, crisp, and clear. These hearing aids are good for most degrees of hearing loss.
In-the-Ear (ITE):
These hearing aids are very small and sit in the outer portion of the ear canal. Because of their small size these are a discreet option.
Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC):
These hearing aids are nearly invisible as they sit inside the ear canal with a comfortable and custom fit. These are best for mild to moderate hearing losses.
Behind-the-Ear (BTE):
These hearing aids sit comfortably behind the ear with a custom earmold attached and placed inside the ear canal. Similar to RIE styles, the placement of the microphone on BTE hearing aids allows for superior sound quality.
Open Behind the Ear:
These types of hearing aids are best for high pitched hearing losses. A thin tube is placed inside the ear and is connected to the hearing aid that rests behind the ear. This style of hearing aid provides the wearer with excellent speech clarity.
In-the-Canal (ITC):
This is a custom-made hearing aid that is based on the impression of your ear. They are cosmetically appealing as all of the components of the hearing aid are encased within a lightweight shell.
Custom Remote Microphone Hearing Aids:
This a newer design for in the ear hearing aids. The microphone is placed in the ear canal where speech sounds are naturally collected. This custom hearing aid is comfortable to wear and provides better speech understanding.

Our doctors of audiology are extremely knowledgeable about the different types of hearing aids and the technology within each of them. Our experts will recommend a hearing aid to you based on a few factors.
First, we look at the configuration of your hearing loss. The type and degree of your hearing loss (mild, moderate, severe) will be a determining factor when deciding what type of hearing aid will best help you.
Second, we look at your lifestyle. During your hearing aid consultation will have a discussion with you to determine what your lifestyle is and what type of environments you spend your time in the most. This will allow us to recommend a hearing aid that will help you hear in those specific environments. Your hearing needs are an important factor in how we recommend hearing aids. If you work, where you spend time, who you interact with, and what you like to do in your free time are all important elements in determining what type of lifestyle you have and what your hearing needs are.
